The Most Significant Cyberattack in Healthcare: A Case Study in Agile Implementation

The Most Significant Cyberattack in Healthcare

The most significant cyberattack in healthcare began on February 21, 2024, disrupting the flow of claims and reimbursements for healthcare providers across the country. The financial impact is widespread and severe, with disruptions from the attack costing hospitals as much as $2 billion a week.

Within 48 hours of the breach, EnableComp activated an alternate workflow through our platform, E360 RCM™, allowing healthcare provider organizations to operate business as usual.

Quick Response & Pivot

With healthcare clients across the country, EnableComp’s response was immediate. While our Information Security Team confirmed that our system integrity had not been compromised, our Implementation Team jumped into action to get claims and cash flowing again for our clients.

Agile Implementation

Our experts have decades of experience in efficient and effective implementation. With important industry relationships and multiple redundancies already in place, the challenge was to establish new pathways for our clients, knowing that many of them had minimal IT resources available.

A combination of quick thinking and creative problem solving allowed our Implementation Team to develop an Alternative Pathway Billing Model (APBM) that got claims flowing for many of our clients within 48 hours.

A Custom Approach for Immediate Results

Immediately after the news of the breach, we proactively reached out to all of our clients to assess each individual client need and provide a recommended solution. Some were ready to take advantage of our APBM right away. Others needed support in establishing direct connections or getting set up with new clearinghouses.

In every case, we’re meeting every client at their state of readiness — providing custom support and a powerful platform of solutions to help them overcome this challenge.

For clients who were ready to move right away, our APBM went into effect within 24 hours of client activation for a monthly impact of 51,000 claims processed and $111 million in total charges to date.
