Spreading Joy One Shoebox at a Time

#ipackedashoebox – actually we packed a lot of them!

Each quarter (and sometimes more frequently) our Charitable Giving Committee, comprised of employees and management across the company select a charity, volunteer event or cause to support. Charitable giving activities are a huge part of who we are as an organization because supporting communities in need is one of our Core Values.

For our 4th quarter charity, we selected Operation Christmas Child in support of Samaritan’s Purse, a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Every year, hundreds of thousands of shoeboxes are packed with toys, personal care items, clothing, crafts, activities and school supplies to be shipped all over the world to children in need. This is typically the only gift these children receive for Christmas.

We ordered the shoe boxes and covered the cost of shipping so employees didn’t need to include the $9 donation for this purpose. Then the fun began…

A few comments from our empowered team members:

“I included coloring books, crayons and pencils because our kids really love to color.”

“I enjoyed involving my kids in packing the shoeboxes. They were able to choose items they would want personally and reflect on how much the children receiving these gifts would enjoy them.”

“I feel like this charity is a great opportunity to give some children a great holiday that they may otherwise not have. To me, a charity for children is very important as children have very little choice or influence on the situations that they are placed in. This means that even the smallest gestures can bring a huge smile to a child.”

“I have enjoyed participating in Operation Christmas Child for many years now. There is something special about packing a shoebox with gifts that allow you to share a moment with a child in need. I always try to include gifts that represent who I am in order to create an unspoken connection with whomever opens the box I sent. My favorite things to include are books and coloring books, accessories, and some sort of stuffed animal. I want to not only send gifts that will allow the child to have fun, but also gifts that will spark creativity, imagination, and self-expression. Operation Christmas Child is an amazing opportunity to make a difference this holiday season and is something I will continue to look forward to each year.”

Many employees chose to pack more than one shoebox. As an organization, we packed 75 boxes as seen here with our fearless leader, President and CEO, David Jones!

At the heart of our culture is a set of core values nurtured by our wonderful employees through special events and activities such as this to spread joy one shoebox at a time. We are very proud to work with such empowered team members! Thank you for all you do…
